Nottingham Castle Christmas Countdown Clock: Day 23
Welcome to the Nottingham Castle Christmas Countdown, where each night, we’ll be sharing an item from the world-class collections in the Castle’s Galleries in the lead up to Christmas.

Welcome to the penultimate day of the Nottingham Castle Christmas Countdown Clock. Tonight, we’re sharing one of our most iconic paintings: ‘Nottingham Castle’ by John Rawson Walker.
This piece was painted the year after the Castle was torched in the Reform Bill Riots of 1831. The riots saw working men across the city fight for the right to vote, and various buildings were destroyed as a result of the protests – including Beeston Silk Mill, Colwick Hall, and Nottingham Castle. This painting reminds us of the power the people of Nottingham hold, and is currently on display in our Art Gallery.
Join us tomorrow for the last day of the Nottingham Castle Christmas Countdown Clock.
