Robin Hood comic book title

Deep in Nottingham’s past, in the time of good King Richard and bad King John, lived Robin and his merry band of companions. All across the city of Nottingham they took from the rich to give to those in need, foiling the wicked Sheriff at every turn.

Through painstaking “historic research” our Nottingham Castle team have created 7 fact-files for you to use and discover the amazing (and totally real) things Robin and his companions got up to in our city all those years ago. You can find these further down the page.

As Heritage Hunters, we also want to share our love of Nottingham’s history with others and one of the best ways to do this is with signs or plaques that tell a story – we’ve shared some in a picture below.

But how do these things fit together? Well, that’s where you come in – using your Heritage Hunter skills to find out what Robin and co did in your area in the fact-files.

Then get creative – design us a plaque for Robin or one of his companions.
Tell us why they are important – why did you pick their story?
Where do you want the plaque to go that’s linked to this person’s life?

You can be super creative with this and add pictures, poetry, creative writing, do cutting + sticking collage – the possibilities are endless! We used a paper plate for our Frederick Gibson-Garton one in the picture but you can use whatever you want!

Then, get someone to share your finished plaque with us on social media using the hashtag #NottmHeritageHunters or email them to There will be an extra special prize for the best one and their family! Plus, if you’re socially distancing – you could put the plaque up in your window and share a story from your front room!

Heritage Hunters, good luck!
