Let little ones burn off energy in our adventure play ‘Hood’s Hideout’, enjoy a stroll around the lower bailey, try one of our family learning trails or sip a delicious coffee outside one of our cafés.

Hood’s Hideout Adventure Play

Set within the dry moat of the Castle, Nottingham’s newest outdoor adventure playground Hood’s Hideout promises hours of fun and discovery for children of all ages, all year round.

Journey up ‘The King’s Road’ toward the Castle from the secret encampment, wary of those in the tree walkways above. Will you storm the Castle or repel the outlaws with the Sheriff of Nottingham? Children of all ages will love to swing, slide, climb and jump through history on our amazing creative timber play structures.

Activities and events

In the grounds you’ll also find our new Explore panels – enjoy the medieval history of Nottingham Castle, retold just for you. Families can also enjoy our Hero in the Green Hat, Up Close with Nature and seasonal trails from the Visitor’s Centre.

The grounds will also host our events programmes – be it Slashing and Bashing with the Plantagenets or the Raising of Charles’ Civil War Standard; history will come to life in the Castle’s outdoor spaces. There’ll also be food and cultural events, outdoor theatre and film screenings and gigs celebrating Nottingham’s vibrant music scene.
